Peace Corps Advice

Hey everyone in cyberspace!

Hope everyone is enjoying Hump Day (Wednesday)!

I have been hearing good news that more people who sent in paperwork around my time have been receiving medical clearance, which mean mine should be coming soon :)

I want to give medical a call (since they have had my info for 3 months now). any advice on what to say? What I can ask? What you may have asked when calling medical that helped you? Any advice is appreciated. I plan on calling tomorrow morning, so the sooner you can respond the better! Thank you!

On another note, job search is going pretty good. I've had a couple of interviews and I have some more tomorrow :)

  1. I emailed pre-service because I am going to be moving in a month away from my current address (and doctor), and the next day my medical was started. I don't know if that was coincidence or if my email actually helped, but if you have something like that coming up. Another way thats good to ask is if you are going to be doing any traveling soon and wont be able to answer quickly to any inquiries. I tried to really make it about me making it easier for them, and that seemed to be good

    Good luck!

  2. Every time I called someone, there was never anyone in the office and I never got a return phone call. Maybe that was just my bad luck, but I had much more success emailing. I think when I emailed OMS they got back to me within 10 minutes, but it was just a simple question about one of my tests. Definitely don't compare your progress with the journals you've been reading, they don't like that very much.

  3. I'd email before calling but I'm pretty sure they're just getting done with July nominees. I know you've been waiting for what feels like forever, but I'd give it another week or two. But that's just my two cents.

  4. I turned in my medical mid feb it only took about 10 days for them to review and clear me and i have an invitation already for aug so it may just be who is working on your paperwork. I would call them and put some fire under their ass :)

  6. My husband and I sent in our medicals back in November and are nominated for August. I had a new glasses script so I contacted OMS through email and they added the new scan of my script to my file. Then, in the next day or two they lifted my husband's legal hold - no phone call or anything. So, maybe you just give them an update and mention your timeline a bit and they may look into it! Good luck, Mari

  7. give them a call or email - they had my medical for 2.5 months and I emailed early last week to check on the status since it was within the 4 month window now (also Aug nominee) and a nurse started looking at it the next day. Clearance took less than a week with some back/forth questions too!
